EMI Records: 2 On 1 CD

The Irish News, March 14, 1997

Straying from the country scene for a minute, I must mention a new release which hit the shops last Monday. It's a two-in-one CD release from EMI of the late Ruby Murray's classic Irish albums When Irish Eyes are Smiling and Irish... And Proud Of It.

These albums were recorded in 1955 and 1962 respectively when Ruby was at the height of her stardom. During 1955 one in every four records sold in Great Britain was of Ruby Murray who had five songs in the Top 20 at the same time - the first to achieve that superb feat and only one of three singers - Elvis Presley and Madonna the others - to have the honour.

What a treat! I never thought I'd see a CD like this, especially a reissue of Irish... And Proud Of It, a personal favorite of mine. Imported from England, this CD isn't cheap (but still a bargain at approx. $25). As far as I know, it is currently available right now at online CD stores like CDnow and Amazon.com.
