The votes for the North Yorkshire panel are:-

1. Isle of Innisfree.
2. A Little Bit of Heaven.
3. Connemara.
4. Doonaree.
5. Galway Bay.

And that ends the voting from up North.

Thank you for your inputs. I had a telephone call the other day from Elma Hourston (the lady who kindly supplied the picture of Ruby in the red sweater) and so I asked her for her five favourite songs about Ireland. Here is her selection:
  • 1. Lovely Leitrim
    2. Among The Wicklow Hills
    3. The Old Bog Road
    4. Irish Summer 63
    5. Ballyshannon
I will do the sums and see how the list stands.

We now have 10 lists to consolidate, and here is the latest position:
  • 14 A Little Bit of Heaven
11 How Can You Buy Killarney?
9 Lovely Derry on the Banks of the Foyle
    9 Galway Bay
9 It's a Great Day for the Irish
    9 Isle of Innisfree

    8 Doonaree (1958)
    7 Ballyshannon
    6 Mountains of Mourne
    6 Green Glens of Antrim
6 The Boys from County Armagh
    5 Lovely Leitrim
    4 The Six Mile Song
    4 The Kellys
    4 Rathfriland on the Hill
    4 Dear Old Donegal
    4 Trottin' to the Fair
    4 Among the Wicklow Hills
    3 Meeting of the Waters
    3 Christmas Time In Ireland
    3 Forty Shades of Green
    3 The Old Lammas Fair
    3 Connemara
    3 The Old Bog Road
2 The Stone Outside Dan Murphy's Door
    2 Killarney, Killarney
    2 There's a Little Bit of Irish
    2 Summer 63
    1 Cockles and Mussels
You can see that your vote can still have an influence on the final five, so if you are interested in joining in this game, let me know your list and it will be included in the final count.

Just a reminder, I have restricted the type of song to "songs about Ireland" so that would exclude songs that may be Irish in nature, but don't actually mention a place or feature about that country.

I have just had a telephone call from David Frankish, so I invited him to give me his selection as well, and here it is:
  • 1. Ballyshannon
    2. Killarney, Killarney
    3. Galway Bay
    4. Doonaree
    5. The Mountains of Mourne
So now we have a new top five again!

Just a reminder that if you want to influence the top five songs and haven't voted yet, time is running out. I plan to upload the new home page in good time for St. Patrick's Day.

You can see that as not many people have voted, your votes can quite easily decide which songs are going to be on the new Home Page, so please send in your list of songs in priority order, number one being your most favourite.

And another reminder that I have restricted the songs to those which are actually about places in Ireland, not those which are simply "Irish songs", however good the latter are. I will do those next year!

Well I have had an e-mail from Sandy to say that she is too harrassed at the moment to post her own preferences, but would I do them for her. So here is what she said:

My favourites are probably like no other.
1. Delaneys Donkey.
2. The boys from County Mayo
3. Dooneree
4. Phil the fluter's ball
5. Irish Rover

Although one or two fall outside the "rules" (yellow card?) they won't now influence the final five. But Dooneree (also written as Doonaree) will.
