Ruby on BBC Radio 2
I have been told that in yesterday's Paul O'Grady show (11th November 2012) not one but three of Ruby's records were played
Here is a link - http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0 ... 1_11_2012/ and it occurs about 1 hour and 30 minutes in from the start. Paul plays as a request from someone in Southampton "Mr Wonderful", "Let Me Go, Lover" and "Let Him Go, Let Him Tarry" and at the end of the third song he says a few words about Ruby. His words are accurate so his investigators may have got them from this website!
Please note that as of today you only have 6 days in which to listen, the programme cannot be downloaded, and no doubt cannot be heard from outside the UK, so sorry about that. But it is really good to know that Ruby had three records in one programme.

Hello Gerald.
Yes it was good to have Ruby on radio with three in a row. My Son texts me to tell me, he had radio 2 on in his car.
Do you think the girl that requested the three was trying to tell someone to get lost?

Re: Ruby on BBC Radio 2
Hello Friends,
I was thrilled and delighted to hear the 'Triple' of Ruby's songs on the Paul O'Grady Radio 2 programme. Together with the news from David concerning the large number of people who 'log on' and listen to her songs on the internet it all makes wonderful news.
I have sent an email to Paul O'Grady thanking him for playing 3 of Ruby's songs, I will let you know if there is any kind of response. Fingers crossed because I have asked him if he could give the website a mention ???????? Knowing that there must be a mulitude of emails and letter going into the BBC Radio 2 it might be wishful thinking about getting a response but - who knows?

And finally here's a 'retro singer' who includes 'Softly Softly' in her list of songs. Apparently she is hired for events/cabarets?...........

Thank you David, I hadn't seen the article before although the Pathé clips have been discovered a while back by one of our currently non-posting members.1952mgyb wrote:Came across this article - apologies if you have seen it already

It does make interesting reading, although I sense at times a bit of cynicism creeps in! I discovered Ruby when I was 14 and up to that point there were a number of talented singers who could be classed as crooners without that term being negative. I chose to become a fan of Ruby's style of singing not because there was no other choice, but because I was greatly impressed by Ruby's voice, her mannerisms which suggested a very shy and charming character, and let it be said, her very pretty looks. I did not rely on my mother and father to popularise her in our house, I was the one who bought (or had as presents) all her records and I was not at all disappointed by the choice of songs that she sang - they struck home with me just as they did with my parents' generation. So to imply that we teenagers were waiting for Elvis and Bill Haley to come and rescue us from boredom is simply not true; not in my case and I guess not in the case of most of the people who have written on this Forum who are of around my age. We teenagers of the 50s who chose Ruby (of whom there were at the time many thousands) are a discerning bunch!
Thanks again David for the very interesting links that you have given us.

Is this Paul O'Grady that was Lily Savage?
