A Tough Test Of 10 Tuneful Teasers.

Post by Bernie Burgess »

Hello Friends.

These 10 questions should bring out the best in musical knowledge and at the same time create some much needed activity.

In which of Ruby's songs does she explain the differences in her?
(Answer - 'IT'S THE IRISH IN ME' )
The line is 'Makes me walk, makes me talk with a difference you see')

In which of Ruby's songs does she refer to - you and I being protected?
(Answer - 'TRUE LOVE')
The line is - 'For you and I have a guardian Angel ......'

.. .. .. .. .. .does Ruby say that she wants to spend somewhere forever?
(Answer - 'MR. WONDERFUL')
THe line is 'To spend forever here in your arms'

.. .. .. .. .. ..does she refer to someone from Kilarney?
(Answer - 'NORA MALONE')
THe line is 'Hear all the blarney from your Barney Karney from Killarney'

.. .. .. .. .. .. does she ask for her name to be spoken?
(Answer -'PASSING STRANGERS')
The line is 'Speak my name, just once more'.

.. .. .. .. .. ..does she sing about going somewhere in the morning?
(Answer 'WITH ME SHILLELAGH UNDER ME ARM')
The line is 'I'll be off to Tipperary in the morning'

.. .. .. .. .. .. .. does she reject 3/4 time?
(Answer - 'MUSIC MAESTRO PLEASE')
The line is 'Please don't play a waltz'

.. .. .. .. .. .. .does she refer to The Life Guards?
(Answer 'DELANEY'S DONKEY')
The line is 'The 2nd Enniskillens and The Life Guards too'

.. .. .. .. .. ..does she refer to everything being spick and span?
(Answer 'TEDDY O'NEIL')
THe line is - 'I'm sure it was always kept tidy and clean'

.. .. .. .. .. .. does she suggest not taking protection?
(Answer - 'PENNIES FROM HEAVEN')
The line is 'So, when you hear it thunder, don't run under a tree'

Because of the cost I cannot offer 10 gold stars for the winner, but I will think of something less costly, providing the winner has all 10 correct answers.

Happy listening. Adios Amigos. Bernie.

Graham's #8

Post by rbl.ca »

Hi Bernie & Graham.

I can't find fault with Graham's choices, but I know the one that's got him beat (#8) is surely Delaney's Donkey:

There was Riley pushin’ it, shovin’ it and shushin’ it,
Hogan, Logan and all the bally crew,
Police, and auxiliary, the Garrison Artillery,
The Second Enniskillens and the Life Guards too.

Well done, Graham.
Regards.
Ralph

Hello Friends,

Well done to both Graham and Ralph.

Now for the points scored. Starting with Graham: You are CORRECT with the first one. The song is 'IT'S THE IRISH IN ME' - 1 POINT
(The applicable line is: 'Makes me walk, makes me talk WITH A DIFFERENCE YOU SEE'.)

The second answer is a good one but not the one I'm looking for.

The third answer is again a very good one but not the right one - sorry.

The forth - you get close again, but sorry.

The fifth is CORRECT -The song 'PASSING STRANGERS'- POINT. 2
(The applicable line is 'SPEAK MY NAME, JUST ONCE MORE')

The sixth.- nearly, but no, sorry,

The seventh- CORRECT.-The song- 'MUSIC MAESTRO PLEASE' POINT 3
(The line is 'PLEASE DON'T PLAY A WALTZ')

The ninth is CORRECT- The song is 'TEDDY O'NEIL'. POINT. 4
(The line is 'I'M SURE IT WAS ALWAYS KEPT TIDY AND CLEAN')

The tenth - CORRECT- the song - 'PENNIES FROM HEAVEN' POINT 5.
(The line,- 'WHEN YOU HEAR IT THUNDER, DON'T RUN UNDER A TREE'

Ralph is CORRECT. The song is 'DELANEY'S DONKEY' POINT 1
(Ralph supplied the line - The 2nd Enniskillens and THE LIFE GUARDS TOO.

5 POINTS to Graham and 1 POINT to Ralph.

So this leaves numbers 2-3-4-6 to be answered. Almost there friends.
I'm very impressed. Keep 'em coming.

Adios Amigos. Bernie.

Hello Friends,

I was up very late last night, (marking papers), so a couple of spelling mistakes crept in, (Well that is my excuse and I'm stuck with it). I have edited, (thanks to Ralph for Enniskillens).

I do hope that 'Friends' get as much fun and enjoyment out the 'Teasers' as I do.

My very best wishes to you all. Bernie.

Well done Ralph........It's so easy when it is pointed out to you.....I tried so hard with this one but just could not come up with an answer.

Bernie I am putting my neck upon the line again and will try number six again.

Could it be It's a great Day For The Irish...........I woke me up this morning to see The Big Parade.

Best wishes
Graham

Hello Graham,

Not the correct one again Graham, even so, it is applicable - in a way.

I have learned not to give out clues too early, although I don't want to be the cause of sleep deprevation, I will resist the temptation.

Keep trying Graham.

Kindest Regards. Adios Amigo. Bernie.

My guess for #2

Post by rbl.ca »

Hi, Bernie.

After some consideration, I have to bet on this:

#2 : Galway Bay :
"I'll ask my God to let me make my Heaven
In that dear land across the Irish Sea"

I'll keep pondering the others.
Regards.

Hello Ralph,

A beautiful thought Ralph but you will need to ponder further.

Still too early to hand out a clue or two.

Happy Listening. Adios Amigos. Bernie.

Hello Graham,

Congratulations, you are right on both. -No. 3.- 'Mr. Wonderful'
("To SPEND FOREVER here in your arms")

And No. 6. 'With Me Shillelagh Under Me Arm"
(I'll be off to Tipperary IN THE MORNING")

Climb down from the window sill Graham.

Eight down, two to go now, numbers 2 and 4, Don't do anything wreckless, I'm sure you will get the last two. To help a little with No.2 the word protection is not mentioned but protection is there in abundance

Regards. Bernie.

Hello Friends,

We seem to have come to a temporary halt with possible answers. Of course, I might have been untruthful when I said that it was too early to give clues, I might have given one, on the other hand it could be true.

Sneaky eh?

I have been racking my brains over Number 2, and also trying to fathom out whether or not you have given us a cryptic clue.

The result is that I have come up with "True Love" with the words "For you and I have a guardian angel on high with nothing to do".

It seems to fit the question in which Ruby sings about you and I being protected, and protection being there in abundance (because the guardian angel has nothing to do), and the clue about "being untruthful... or it could be true".

I hope so!
Gerald

Hello Gerald.

Spot on Gerald - The song is - 'TRUE LOVE'

The line being 'For YOU AND I HAVE A GUARDIAN ANGEL' - What better protection could one wish for? And of course you spotted the clue that I gave - "It might be TRUE".

One more to go friends - No. 4. which is - In which song does Ruby refer to someone from Kilarney. You in fact have to have sharp hearing to pick up a very fast reference to his name in this particular song.

P.S. (Aside) = Now where did I put that pile of gold stars??????

Adios Amigos. Bernie,
